2024.06 Learning Japanese - Hiragana and Katakana

Weekly notes on my journey learning (or sometimes failing to learn) Japanese.

It's been a month. And I've learned a lot!

Oh, you thought I meant Japanese ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต?

No ๐Ÿคฃ, but I appreciate your faith in me.

I mean I have learned a lot about how challenging and slow this process will be.

โœ”๏ธ things that are working....

  1. Spaced Repetition flash cards
  2. Duolingo Kana Practice sessions
  3. Practicing writing Kana

โŒ things that are not working....

Time. Especially as work has kicked back into full gear, my time and motivation to learn has plummeted.

But that's ok.

๐Ÿ‘พ
I'm learning how I can learn.

๐Ÿ” observations

  1. I usually can only dedicate time to learning new material on the weekends
  2. During the week, I generally only have time/motivation for flashcard review and some writing practice

This will inevitably slow things down in my learning journey. Good news is, there is no rush, and I'm still enjoying learning for the sake of learning.

So far I've learned 50 kana.

goals for this week

  • Review Learned Kana
  • Learn "N" column
